First aid essentials, online theory.

First Aid Essentials covers what a new emergency first aider needs to know: assessing an incident, the unresponsive casualty, CPR and the defibrillator, choking, bleeding and shock, seizures, burns and minor injuries, hygiene and the law. It is the online theory part of a blended Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course, so the practical session can concentrate on hands-on skills.

Who it's for

New emergency first aiders, before their practical session.

An EFAW certificate can only be issued once the practical skills, such as CPR, the recovery position and controlling bleeding, have been taught and assessed face to face by a qualified trainer. This course is the online theory that comes first. Learners finish with a 30-question check, then complete the practical with their training provider.

HSE-recognised first aid certificates, such as Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and First Aid at Work (FAW), cannot be earned fully online. The practical skills must be taught and assessed face to face by a qualified trainer. This course is the online theory part, which a training provider pairs with the in-person practical.

FORMAT

Narrated video lessons with captions, on any phone, tablet or computer. The practical skills are taught and assessed separately, in person.

ASSESSMENT

30 questions, marked by the system. Learners need 24 correct (80%) to pass.

CERTIFICATE

A record of the online theory, issued on passing and kept for four years. It is not a first aid certificate on its own: the training provider issues that once the practical skills have been assessed in person.

MANAGERS

Assign it, set a due date and see every learner's progress and result.
